How Much Further ? is
a sweet and unique road
movie that follows two girls
in their mid-twenties as they
travel through the Ecuadorian
mountains and coastline.
Esperanza "Hope" (Tania
Martinez), a Spanish tourist
looking to explore Ecuador's
"picturesque" landscapes
and experience "third world"
adventures, meets Tristeza
"Sadness" (Cecilia Vallejo), a
cynical Ecuadorian student,
when a bus strike strands them
in the middle of nowhere. As
they start to hitchhike their
way to the Andean village
of Cuenca, they meet a tall,
scrawny man, Jesús, carrying
the ashes of his recently
deceased grandmother. In the
nearly desolate landscape, the
three continue together in what
becomes a journey of friendship
and self-discovery. Esperanza
and Trizteza will not find
postcard views or true love, but
their journey will open them to
a world beyond such illusions.
