CASUAL DAY
The wildly entertaining debut
feature from Max Lemcke sees
a company retreat turn into an
hilariously divisive exercise.
Only one week into his
new job, Ruy (Javier Rios) an
uncertain twenty-something,
reluctantly participates in the
company's "casual day," which
in this case is a weekend away
designed to boost productivity
and cultivate collegiality.
He got the job because his
hysterical girlfriend Ines (Marta
Etura) is the boss' daughter.
Already Jose Antonio (Juan
Diego) has him earmarked
as his successor, but recently
Ruy's begun to question his
direction, both personally and
professionally. Fellow newbie
Marta (Estibaliz Gabilondo),
Ines' best friend, is an ally, but
mounting tensions among coworkers
push them closer than
either realizes.
With rich black humor and a
fine ensemble cast which also
include Luis Tosar & Alberto
San Juan, Max Lemcke's
Casual Day brings out the
subtle treacheries of office
politics in the unlikeliest
of settings: the idyllic
countryside!
