What could be better fodder for a black comedy than the stuffy world of modernist design? In The Man Next Door, Leonardo (Rafael Spregelburd) is a successful industrial designer whose perfect world is spoiled when his new neighbor, Victor (Daniel Araoz), starts knocking down a shared wall. Suddenly the symmetry of his beautiful home is gone, and Leonardo is forced to contend with his well meaning but incredibly crude neighbour. This hilarious satire on the obsessions of class and design was filmed at the famous 1955 Curutchet House, south of Buenos Aires, which is the only building in the Americas designed by the renowned architect, Le Corbusier. Visually stunning and with winning performances from the leads as squabbling neighbours, The Man Next Door is a well constructed delight. It also swept Argentina's Sur awards last year, including winning for Best Director and Best Film.
