OPENING NIGHT FILM AND FIESTA The gala opening night selection of the 2009 Festival, Nacho G. Velilla’s CHEF’S SPECIAL is a delicious farce about a headstrong chef – a huge critical and box office hit on its local release that is set to delight audiences here. CHEF’S SPECIAL is high entertainment, overflowing with the winning ingredients of wit, vivacity and laugh-out-loud comic timing. The always-compelling Cámara (a 2009 Festival guest) leads a terrific cast that also includes Fernando Tejero and Lola Dueñas. |

The festival moves and grooves this year! For those who love music films, there will be an abundance of choices: Fados - Carlos Saura’s gorgeous new film about Portuguese music; Septembers – a documentary about an unusual song festival held in prison; Mozart’s Don Giovanni - the controversial 2002 stage production; Old Man Bebo (see Cuban Night) and La Mala (see Closing Night). |
