Goya: May 3

Goya 3 de mayo

In this short form work, Carlos Saura “repaints” Francisco de Goya’s canvas ‘The Third of May 1808’. An innovative audio-visual project that makes a cinematographic recreation of Goya's iconic painting which commemorates the Spanish resistance to Napoleon's armies during the occupation of 1808 in the Peninsular War.

Faithfully reconstructing the scene captured by Goya in his painting, Saura takes viewers on a journey offering considered commentary on the horrors of war and the role of the artist as chronicler.

All sessions of this short are followed by Carlos Saura's final feature film, Walls Can Talk.
